Brazil president: I’d rather have a dead son than a gay son

Rio may no longer be a pink destination. How will the future of the traveling world change if they took a stance against growing anti-gay leaders of Brazil?

The new ultra right-wing president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro targeted Brazil’s LGBTQ community with executive orders in the first hours of his administration, moving quickly after a campaign in which the far-right leader said he would radically overhaul many aspects of life in Latin America’s largest nation.

Brazil’s new president, Jair Bolsonaro, spent part of his first day in office removing all LGBT issues from consideration in his human rights ministry. The “proud homophobe” previously said he’d rather have a “dead son than a gay son.”

May it’s time to refuse spending pink money in Brazil, are voices already loud in the travel and tourism world.

The executive orders come as a blow to the LGBTQ community, putting vulnerable lives at even greater risk at a time when the country, and the world, are deeply divided.

In an anticipation of the possible erosion of LGBTQ rights, many same-sex couples rushed to get married before Bolsonaro took office, worrying that he may reverse the country’s 2013 marriage equality law.
