A gay man is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly stabbing his boyfriend.

Police are accusing a 23-year-old of stabbing his 46-year-old partner for refusing a ‘second round of sex’.

The incident happened Wednesday morning (19 September) in Pune city, India.

‘On Tuesday night, the accused visited the complainant and they had sex,’ a police official in Khadak said.

‘When the complainant again wanted to have sex in the morning, the accused refused, which led to a fight.’

The two men have dated for two years.

During the fight, the accused allegedly stabbed the complainant with a sharp-edged iron rod.

Inspector Umaji Rathod, investigating the case, said the couple met through a gay dating site.

‘The complainant in his statement has mentioned that he was in a physical relationship with the accused for quite sometime,’ Rathod said.

‘However, he was clueless about why he was attacked this time.’

The older man is recovering in hospital. He has sustained injuries on head, face and the right shoulder.

Police have said ‘forced sex’ is a possible other reason behind the attack. However, they continue to probe the actual motive.

Other news in India

Three weeks ago, a man had his charge reduced in Bombay due to the ‘gay panic’ defense.

The 35-year-old man had already served seven years in jail for his friends’ death. But he appealed to the Bombay High Court to have his sentenced reduced.

Originally convicted for murder and given a life sentence, the court reduced his sentence. The court’s changed the man’s sentence to culpable homicide and released him for time already served.

The man  claimed his friend was trying to have ‘unnatural sex’ with him and that’s why he attacked him.

But there is good news in India.

On 6 September the Supreme Court of India ruled the scrap the colonial era Section 377 of Penal Code. That law banned ‘carnal intercourse against the order of nature’ and authorities used it to criminalize the LGBTI community.

The celebrations around India are still going, but the country’s diaspora around is also revelling in the historic decision. One of the biggest parties is happening in London next week.
