Gay Star News is seeking an Asia and Australasia correspondent

Written by gaytourism

We are looking for two great journalists to cover Asia and Australasia for Gay Star News.

Our current Asia and Australasia correspondent is moving to London to work in our main office. She has built great contacts, headed up our coverage of marriage equality in Australia and has broken stories from across Asia.

Now we need two people to fill her shoes. The first will work up to five days a week (mostly weekdays, although some weekends). The second will work two or three days a week (mostly weekends, though sometimes during the week). Once we find the perfect candidates, we will try to set the rota to suit them.

If you think you may not ‘fit in’ to LGBTI media, think again. We want our team to reflect the diversity of our amazing community. And we are well known as one of the friendliest teams in the LGBTI business world.

About you and the Asia and Australasia correspondent job

We need you to be an experienced print or digital journalist with a passion for LGBTI people.

If you have video presenting or production experience, that’s a big plus – if not, that’s OK provided you are keen to learn.

We need candidates who are comfortable using social media to research and promote articles.

Excellent written and spoken English is obviously a must. We also welcome candidates who speak other languages, though this not a prerequisite.

You will be responsible for sourcing, writing, posting and sharing stories from across the region. You will also pick up on the most important breaking news from other parts of the world, when it happens while you’re on shift.

As such, you will need to be comfortable making quick decisions and turning out multiple articles per day.

You will also build our network of contacts in the region. They help us break stories first and get to know what’s really happening.

You will help with features, opinion pieces, cover events and write travel reports, as well as reporting the news.

You will work remotely, from your own home, but you will very much be a part of the GSN team. Our team around the world chats and works closely together. In addition you will have regular online meetings with your line manager, to support you.

Provided you work the core hours assigned to you, we are open to where you work from in the region. In the past, some of our correspondents have traveled around Asia, working remotely. So this job opens up the opportunity to travel too.

This really is an amazing job. You will get to tell LGBTI stories which usually get overlooked and to make a real contribution to our community.

What do you get out of it?

This is your chance to earn a decent salary working full time in LGBTI media.

GSN is a creative, fun environment, working with people who are really passionate about what they do. We all work together as one team, so you’ll have plenty of support.

Furthermore, our staff tend to love it here, so our staff retention rate is high. We try to support you as you grow your skills and responsibilities. GSN is expanding rapidly and we expect that expansion to be even faster in future years. This is a place to build a great career.

Want to know more?

The first step is to email [email protected] with your CV and a cover letter explaining why you are interested. Please mark the subject as Asia/ Australasia Correspondent.
