Organizers of an LGBTI awards event dumped the nominee for Hunk of Year because of homophobic tweets.

The LGBTI Feather Awards decided to drop fitness model, Tumi Seeco, only hours after it revealed the 2018 nominations.

The Feather Awards started 10 years ago in South Africa to lightheartedly celebrate people the LGBTI community loved. Since then it has become an important platform for raising awareness about LGBTI issues.

Controversial tweets

The since deleted tweets from 2012 said the model would disown his son if he ‘turns gay’.

‘(sic) My son mst knw if he eva turns gay, he won’t have a father, higly impossible tho, his genes wnt allow it,’ Seeco wrote on Twitter.

‘I think that’s how u get gay children, they witness their dad getting beat by the mom,’ he wrote in another tweet.

The Feather Awards’ organizers released a statement condemning Seeco’s tweets.

‘As an event dedicated to fighting homophobia and discrimination against sexual minorities, the Feather Awards has a zero tolerance attitude to such prejudice. Tumi Seeco’s nomination is withdrawn with immediate effect,’ organizers said in a statement.

Advocate of the High Court, Dominic Khumalo, replaced Seeco as the Hunk of the Year nominee.

‘The Feather Awards extends their heartfelt congratulations to the Advocate on the occasion of his nomination, and wishes him all the best in the run-up to the awards event,’ organizers said in their statement.
