Written by gaytourism

The International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association is in session at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Capetown, South Africa.

As an African country South Africa is in the unique position to fully accept the LGBT community and established marriage equality. Surrounding countries like Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and others consider same sex relationships illegal.

UNWTO tourism advisor Anita Mendiratta and the head of WTTC David Scowsill spoke at the event.

Anita was quoted saying: “We, the Travel and Tourism industry help to promote self respect, self confidence, self sufficiency”

David Scowsill reinforced his vision to include the LGBT community as a key part of the Travel and Tourism industry in the quest for freedom of travel.

A WTTC spokes woman told eTurboNews: “As part of our Freedom to Travel strategy we encourage travel facilitation for all travelers, however we have not spoken out about LGTB specifically and therefore would be unable to provide you with a comment.
