A state House candidate in Maine hurled slurs at survivors of a mass school shooting, calling one of them a ‘skinhead lesbian’.
Leslie Gibson is the sole candidate running for House District 57 in Maine. He took to Twitter to criticize two of the main people pushing for gun control after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last month.
The February 14 mass shooting left 17 students dead and their peers calling for stricter gun control in the US.
One of the most outspoken activists is Emma Gonzalez who Gibson called a ‘skinhead lesbian’. He also said her activism was unwarranted because she was in a different part of the school when the shooting happened.
‘There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you’re a frothing at the mouth moonbat,’ Gibson wrote.
Moonbat is a term used for someone with extremely left-wing political views.

In his Twitter tirade, Gibson also called Parkland student, David Hogg a ‘bald faced liar’. He did not like Hogg’s comments alleging the NRA’s Dana Loesch ‘owns’ Congressman through campaign donations.
‘Hogg doesn’t get a pass when he blatantly lies,’ Gibson wrote.
Backtrack and apology
Gibson who had 84 followers on Twitter apologized for his comments and deleted his account.
‘I would like to extend to you my most sincere apology for how I addressed you. It was wrong and unacceptable,’ Gibson wrote on Twitter.
‘You are doing work that is important to you. I would like to extend my hand in friendship and understanding to you.’
Gonzalez receives LGBTI award
Gonzalez is bisexual and the head of her school’s Gay-Straight Alliance. She was honored this week for her work on gun control.
Equality Florida awarded Gonzalez and her peers the Voice for Equality Award.
‘It is for us a combination of the oppression faced in the LGBT+ community, being students who are told to listen rather than to speak, the unsatisfyingly short periods of time in which we are allowed to be our true selves, and a million other reasons, that have contributed to us jamming our feet into the door of the media and and refusing to stand back in this time of senseless tragedy,’ she said in her acceptance speech.
