Sick of bigoted fakes on other apps? Chappy might be for you

Chappy has relaunched just in time to save our dating lives.

Gay dating can sometimes feel like a minefield.

You don’t know whether you’re too old or too young, too masc or too fem, or many other ways that make you feel like you’re not good enough.

Thankfully, gay dating and social connection app Chappy is back after a major relaunch and rebranding.

The app emphasizes that it’s about your experience. It’s not about trying to fit into boxes or becoming the societal stereotype, it’s just about you and what you are looking for.

Download Chappy now on iPhone & Android.

What’s new on Chappy?

You’re no longer looking for ‘Mr Right’ or ‘Mr Right Now’.

Chappy tells us what they want is to empower users by allowing them to choose the kind of experience and type of relationship they’re looking for, based on how they’re feeling at that moment.

Sexy, the app describes, is ‘when you’re feeling bold and adventurous’.

‘Over here, guys are looking for something spontaneous,’ it says. ‘Of course it can be short-term, but remember guys, a relationship describes a personal connection, not just a length of time’.

On the other side of the scale is ‘cute’, searching for closer more long-term relationships.

‘We’re talking picnics in the park, long walks to the grocery store and sharing your Netflix password,’ it says.

It’s not about defining people as ‘cute’ or as ‘sexy’, but describing the kind of experience. ‘Something’ not ‘someone’, if you will.

If you want to search for the one, then this works to allow you to search for other like-minded guys.

Space ‘thrives’ on tolerance and acceptance

But most of all, the pledge is still an important part of the app registration process.

‘Chappy is an inclusive space which thrives on the tolerance and acceptance of its members,’ the pledge states.

‘As our mama always said, “If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all”.

‘By pressing I AGREE you commit to treating all guys on Chappy with kindness, respect and love’.

Why Chappy is safer than other apps

This zero tolerance for abusive behavior is a major part of the relaunch.

Users reported for violating Chappy’s terms and conditions risk a permanent ban from the app.

This stops people from saying such offensive things like ‘No fats, no fems, no Asians’ etc’.

Sam Dumas, Chappy’s Head of Brand, who now also holds Co-Founder status, told GSN ‘blatant prejudice masked as preference is something we take seriously’.

The aim is create and maintain a safe respectful community of users online.

‘In an effort to keep users safe and our community authentic, every Chappy user must have their face in their profile photos, which reduces catfishing and keeps communication more transparent. We also introduced screenshot warnings in order to protect people’s private conversations,’ he said.

‘As a result, we have the lowest reporting and blocking averages in the industry.’

Tailored to your experience, your wants and desires

The relaunched app has also got a new look, a color they call ‘post-millennial peach’.

Their new look tells us that dating isn’t black and white, which explains their shift from monochrome to peach & maroon.

Ultimately, Chappy wants to give gay men the freedom to do what they want to do while connecting and dating online in a safe and respectful way.

The app’s core principles and brand ethos are rooted in ‘kindness, accountability and transparency’.

Chappy is available to download on all app stores now.
