You’ll struggle to find a more fabulous festival anywhere else in the States | Photo: Illinois Office of Tourism
If you haven’t heard of Northalsted Market Days in Chicago, then you’re in for the perfect LGBTI treat.
The weekend-long event is the largest outdoor street festival in the Midwest, with 2018’s edition storming into Chicago’s Boystown on 11 and 12 August. This year saw two days of live music across five stages, with the likes of Betty Who, Todrick Hall, EXPOSÉ and more thrilling the crowds.
As well as music, there’s over 200 different vendors spanning art, crafts, food, and drink, all with less clothing than at your local swimming pool. An estimated 200,000 people descended onto the city for the festivities.
Continuing to celebrate the long history of diversity and inclusiveness at the festival, the Illinois Office of Tourism unveiled a spectacular structure as part of its #AmazingForAll campaign. The six-foot-by-23-foot wooden sculpture, created and designed by Chicago artist Matthew Hoffman, became a hit as soon as it was unveiled.
The idea behind the piece was to welcome the LGBTI community from around the world to both the festival and the state.
And those guests certainly felt welcomed. Thousands arrived to celebrate and nearly every single person looked fabulous. Don’t believe us? Check out these spectacular photos that prove that the Northalsted Market Days are #AmazingForAll.
