The UK charity Educate & Celebrate has held its annual cake competition – and once again, it was an amazingly colourful affair!
The day featured 10 teams and 10 LGBT History Month UK-inspired creations. They were made by teachers, primary and secondary school pupils and college students from across the UK.
The youngest entrants, aged from five-eight years old, hailed from New Brancepeth Primary in Durham.
‘Ready, steady, bake!’
Speaking to Gay Star News, Dr Elly Barnes MBE the Founder and Chief Executive Educate & Celebrate, said: ‘Every year we love the competition more as the standard just gets higher and higher!’
She furthermore added: ’It is such a fun and accessible way for students and teachers to get involved with LGBTI inclusion. Through cake, we can spread the message of equality in a joyful way and eat it too – bonus!’
The competition was held in the food technology kitchen of George Mitchell school in Leyton. It was judged by Barnes, as well as Scott Nunn, Director of Gay Star News, and singer and host Saski.
‘We’re feeling quite confident actually!’
Toft Hill primary school in Durham were the eventual winners.
Teacher Mr Way from the school said, when asked if his team of cooks were feeling prepared: ‘We have had a couple of dummy runs, as our team consists of members of our after-school cookery club. We’re feeling quite confident actually, the spirits are certainly high.’
Wolsingham School in Durham came second. Congratulations to all who took part!
