The proliferation of drag culture as a result of 10 successful seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race is undeniable.

But that proliferation does not only mean cisgendered men impersonating women.

Trans queens, bio queens and of course drag kings are also challenging gender norms on stages worldwide.

Tonight, it’s London’s turn, as a show called ‘Women: Work and Power – Gender’s a Drag’ comes to London’s Nursery Theatre.

An evening of improvised performance and comedy will see performers such as Chesca Forristal (Christian Adore, above) and Francesca Renee Reid (Brent Would, below) ‘mansform’.

‘More kings and artists who reject the binary altogether’

Kat Halstead, Events Producer at the Nursery Theatre told Gay Star News: ‘It’s really about challenging stereotypical gender roles and playing with what are considered traditionally masculine and feminine traits.

‘The Kings we have performing all express that in very different ways, and that’s amazing to see in the drag world, which is still known by many purely for the queens on the circuit.

‘It’s expanding so quickly with more and more kings and artists who reject the binary altogether. This evening is particularly exciting because The Nursery is an improv theatre.

‘As such, the performances are created on the spot and the performers really inhabit their alter egos 100 percent. It’s going to be a very fun night!’
