Pa. LGBTQ advocates cry foul on new group intent on advocacy, lobbying

A new LGBTQ advocacy organization has been met with pushback in Pennsylvania as long-established advocates here decry the group for its out-of-state ties and an unclear mission they worry will dismantle years of work.

There’s a new statewide LGBTQ lobbying group in town. Coming as it did ahead of Pride Month, the news would have been expected to generate a robust welcome from this historically marginalized population.

But the rollout of Fairness Pennsylvania was met with substantial pushback from some established LGBTQ advocates. They say that the group’s parent organization, Fairness West Virginia, has done little for the LGBTQ community there and, they believe, has caused harm in some cases.
