Governor Jay Inslee appoints new Washington State LGBTQ Commission director

Written by

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State LGBTQ Commission’s new director was tapped for her new role after serving as the deputy director of policy and outreach for Governor Jay Inslee.

Inslee appointed his former deputy policy director Lisa Keating on July 22

“With her integrity, experience and dedication to public service she is well placed to lead this commission and advance the cause of building a stronger, more equitable Washington,” Inslee said.

Keating served as the Director of Family Engagement and Policy at the GenderCool Project, a nonprofit serving transgender youth, from 2021 to 2023 according to the governor’s office.

She is taking over leadership of the LGBTQ Commission from Acting Executive Director Sheri Sawyer, who was promoted up to Inslee’s Executive Director of Legislative Affairs.

It has been an important year for the commission so far, with the commission highlighting the first state-wide survey of LGBTQ+ populations, creating a Youth Advisory Council and condemning a major raid on queer venues in February.
