Campaign donations to anti-LGBTQ sister cost Jersey City mayoral aide spot on Pride task force

Written by

A Jersey City mayoral aide has resigned from the city’s LGBTQ+ task force after it was revealed he has donated to his sister’s unapologetic, hateful anti-gay election campaign in Missouri.

Jonathan Gomez Noriega, a member of Mayor Steve Fulop’s staff for nearly three years and a member of the Jersey City LGBTQ+ Task Force’s outreach and public relations committee, said he doesn’t agree with everything his sister says, “but I love her.”

His sister, Valentina Gomez, is running in the Republican primary Tuesday for Secretary of State in Missouri. In multiple homophobic rants posted on X, formerly Twitter, Gomez uses LGBTQ+ slurs and the term “gay” as a pejorative term.
