Louisville barbers partner to offer free gender-affirming haircuts for LGBTQ youth

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Local barbers and hair stylists teamed up with Louisville Youth Group to give free gender affirming haircuts on Sunday.

People of all gender identities, ages and hair textures could get free haircuts at Werkhaus Barbers on Bardstown Road. There were barbers from several different shops on hand to help.

Guests could also bring wigs for free cutting and styling. The priority was given to LGBTQ youth and young people.

“Part of the reason why we do this event is to give young people bodily autonomy and give them the freedom to decide how they want to present themselves with the kind of cut they want to get and we make it really accessible by not charging for it,” said Em Joy, program director at Louisville Youth Group.

Louisville Youth Group is a local nonprofit that supports LGBTQ youth through community connection, life skills education and social advocacy. To learn more about Louisville Youth Group, click here
