Martyn Hett had planned a trip to New York City this week that included tickets to two episodes of The Wendy Williams Show.
But Hett, a 29-year-old public relations manager, never made the trip.
He was among the 22 people killed in the terrorist bombing at a Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England.
Barely able to hold back tears, Williams explained to her viewers why there was an empty chair in the audience.
‘There were 22 innocent people killed. One of those people was a 29-year-old Wendy watcher by the name of Martin Hett. Martyn … was supposed to be in our Wendy audience yesterday and today. He saved for two years to have a fabulous time in New York and come to our show. He called it a trip of a lifetime on his social media.’
Williams went on to explain that Hett had his own pop culture website and was popular on Twitter and ‘he’s remembered as a man who loved life … with passion, courage and laughter.’
Williams spoke to Hett’s best girlfriend over in London and informed her that she would be paying tribute to him on the show.
The friend said Hett ‘would love this.’
Williams concluded by saying, her voice cracking: ‘Martyn, in honor of you we’re keeping that chair open. And our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.’
