Actor and activist Cynthia Nixon is running for governor of New York.
After announcing the news in March, she’s been winning people over and making the rounds to share her policies. Such as legalizing marijuana.
Recently, she stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss her candidacy.
She also took the opportunity to take a swipe at current Governor Andrew Cuomo. He was first elected to the position in 2011. However, lately many New Yorkers have been criticizing him.
Nixon, understandably, is using this to her advantage.

During her appearance on the CBS late night show, Colbert asked Nixon about her slogan.
‘Why “Cynthia for New York”? Why not “Nixon for New York?”‘
Nixon explained her slogan using a story about her mother.
‘My mother used to say, she grew up during World War II with a father named Adolf and she lived through the 1970s with a husband named Nixon. So I am aware of the dubious nature of my last name. But I have to say, if given a choice, I would rather be the good Nixon than the bad Cuomo.’
Ouch.
Cuomo might need some ice for that burn.
She also said Cuomo ‘governs like a Republican’ despite being a Democrat. Nixon is also running as a Democrat and she simply believes New York could be doing ‘so much better’.
She’s already inspiring change
Many people have started commenting on the change Nixon has inspired simply by deciding to run.
A lot of them believe Nixon’s challenge is making Cuomo a better governor. For many, though, it’s too little, too late.
even if @CynthiaNixon ‘s candidacy for NY governor isn’t successful, the fact that she has made Andrew Cuomo so shit-scared that he’s actually doing things he should have been doing for years is a victory

Cynthia Nixon has been campaigning for like five minutes and has taken Andrew Cuomo from demanding disabled people be employed as traffic cones to declaring a worker’s soviet in Utica
