Pose, the new series from Ryan Murphy — creator behind shows like Glee, American Horror Story, and American Crime Story — arrives during Pride month. And it’s a perfect fit.
Set in 1980s New York City, Pose explores various aspects of life in the city, including ‘the ball culture world, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe and the downtown social and literary scene’.
The ballroom community is a subculture community of the LGBTI world in the United States. In its simplest form, it sees people walking, dancing, and posing for trophies and prizes. Many often also experiment with drag and gender fluidity.
The show also has the highest number of trans actors in series regular roles on a TV show ever, many of whom are people of color.
First we got an aesthetic-heavy preview of the show, but now the first official trailer is here.

Some odd casting
Evan Peters and Kate Mara star in the show as Stan and Patty, a New Jersey couple. James Van Der Beek will also appear as Matt, Peters’ boss.
Presumably, they’ll represent either the luxury or literary component of the series.
Yet with all the show’s promotional materials focusing on ball culture so far, and its characters of color, Peters and Mara definitely stuck out in the trailer. Their presence at all sticks out like it doesn’t belong.
Perhaps, though, that’s the point.
We’ll find out when the eight-episode series premieres on FX on 3 June.
