The Chester Residence at at the heart of Edinburgh’s West End
According to previous guests, The Chester Residence is the number one hotel in Edinburgh.
After reading these TripAdvisor reviews on the short car ride from Edinburgh Airport, we were excited to see that prestige reflected in the window as we rolled up outside.
Stepping out onto the pavement and looking out over the iconic Georgian crescents of Edinburgh’s West End and up to the glorious townhouses of Rothesay Place, we felt as supreme as Miranda Priestly arriving in Paris for Fashion Week – or Emily, if she’d got to go.

After our ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ moment, we were greeted by a wonderfully bubbly receptionist eager to attend our needs after our flight and show us to the apartment.
As a listed building much of the structure remains untouched, meaning no lifts are in place to scale the height of any one of the five residence’s townhouses. However, the delight of a historically preserved building to call home is worth the leg workout we missed to be here.
Reaching our penthouse apartment, which, we’re told, is the residence’s only clear view over Edinburgh Castle, we were blown away by the chic design and attention to detail.
The five-star feel of the residence is complemented by the privacy of serviced apartments, giving the welcome experience of residency over guesting.

So once our jaws had touched the floor we were left to explore, but not before we were proudly told, by sense of our need for refreshment, we had the outright luxury of being able to order cocktails to our apartment any time of night.
This, along with the full concierge service, proved The Chester Residence staff are passionate about making residents feel at home, as part of the family.
Could it be a cosy first night in watching The Devil Wears Prada for the umpteenth time with an old fashioned hand delivered by a handsome bartender? Easily.
The penthouse itself, complete with double-rainfall shower, outward facing bedrooms with views of residential gardens, super king-sized bed and Molton Brown complimentary products to boot is romantic and sublime.
This level of luxury sprawls over an entire floor – a separate open plan lounge and kitchen, sporting mod-cons and luxury sofa with sloping ceilings is a little loft away from the world.
Note: If you want a view of Edinburgh Castle to look out over we highly recommend requesting our apartment, which can be secured for an additional £50 ($70/€60).
Location, location, location…
Being at the heart of the West End, the quiet, yet-limelight stealing jewel of the city, means seeing Edinburgh from more than the obvious perspectives.
Close to Princes street, one of the city’s major thoroughfares, and the beautifully quaint Rose Street behind full of traditional pubs and alike, the residence is a stone’s throw from the buzz of Edinburgh – and a little further, through the beautiful gardens, is The Royal Mile.
In area, things are quite residential with a few lovely cafes, galleries and wine bars dotted around through roads – the perfect place to relax after climbing Arthur’s Seat.
Strolling into and out of the bustle,without the necessity of public transport floors any ticket stresses or delayed arrivals and streamlines movement around the sprawling city – you might have a hill or two to climb, but that’s what being Scottish is all about!
Is it colder in Edinburgh than in Poland?
So, we’re Miranda Priestly and it’s not even ‘just drizzling’ outside, which we’re told is unusual for Edinburgh which is bathing in sun during our stay; What shall we do?
As advised by another of the wonderful receptionists, who says she thinks the Scottish capital is colder than her home in Poland, we get out and enjoy the beauty of Edinburgh.
But, it’s hard to leave such a beautiful apartment anywhere in the world, in any weather.
