Despite POTUS Donald Trump has overlooked Pride Month, DC is ready to wave the rainbow flag during Capital Pride on 9 June.

The parade will last three hours, going out and about Dupont Circle neighborhood. Those days where the White House was lit up in rainbow colors might have gone, but that won’t stop marchers. On their 1.5-mile route, 200 contingents of floats and vehicles will show their support for the LGBTI community.

The forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms, so better bring your rainbow umbrella. For those who want to take a break during the parade, Pride Block Party, now back for its second year, will provide food, drinks, and entertainment.

Capital Pride Festival: the headliners

The party will go on Sunday, 10 June with Capital Pride Festival. Three stages of national and local talents and 300 exhibitors including community groups, businesses, and food vendors will gather on Pennsylvania Avenue for ten hours of good fun.

The Capital Pride Concert is the largest annual event in the national capital region, calling more than 300,000 people. This year’s headliners will be Grammy winner Alessia Cara, Australian YouTube sensation Troye Sivan and pop and soul singer MAX.

A vast pool of performers will join them, such as Kim Petras, drag queen Ella Fitzgerald, and RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Asia O’Hara. More artists will take the festival stage at 6th and Constitution and the dance tent in Dupont.

This year’s theme celebrates everyone’s uniqueness

‘Each performer brings their unique elements to the kaleidoscope of our community, embracing race, sexuality, gender, spirituality, beliefs, goals, music styles and exceptional talents among many others,’ said Ryan Bos, Capital Pride Alliance Executive Director.

‘The 2018 Pride theme, Elements of Us, celebrates the diversity of what makes up our community. The concert and festival performers embody these many elements.’

Allt the events are free to attend, although VIP and pit passes can be purchased on Capital Pride’s website. Fans will also have the chance to get meet and greet passes for their favorite artists.

Don’t let the heavy rain put you off, paint your cheeks with waterproof colors and walk proud.
