Unfortunately, singer-songwriter Kesha’s legal battle with her former producer Lukasz Gottwald (aka Dr. Luke) is far from over. Thankfully, other women in the industry are coming to her defense.

The court cases

Kesha alleges that Dr. Luke sexually assaulted her and was verbally, mentally, and emotionally abusive. Despite this, the recording artist released a powerful new album last year titled Rainbow.

Now, Dr. Luke is suing Kesha for defamation. He is alleging that Kesha has costed him millions of dollars due to her sexual assault allegations.

P!nk and Avril

Pop stars P!nk and Avril Lavigne have filed sworn affidavits in the defamation case.

‘The reason I have not worked with Dr. Luke since 2006 has nothing to do with Kesha Sebert, her words, or her actions,’ Alecia Moore (aka P!nk) wrote.

Avril Lavigne’s document said the same thing, only her end date with Dr. Luke wasn’t until 2007.

Both documents were signed in April.

Why it matters

In the era of the #MeToo movement (which the President of the United States has openly mocked), this kind of solidarity amongst women is very important.

According to the organization RAINN, 1 in 6 women in the United States will be a victim of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetimes.

These statistics are even higher for the LGBTI community. According to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), 44% of lesbians and 61% of bisexual women have been abused by an intimate partner, compared to 35% of heterosexual women. Additionally, 47% of transgender people are sexually assaulted in their lifetimes.
