Bird’s eye view of suspect at Trader Joe’s
A shooter took dozens of people hostage in a Trader Joe’s supermarket in Los Angeles on Saturday (21 July).
Police are holding Gene Evin Atkins, 28, on suspicion of murder.
The man handcuffed himself and surrendered about three hours after taking the supermarket victims hostage.
Coroner’s officials identified the woman as 27-year-old Melyda Corado. Her brother, Albert Corado, said on Twitter she worked at Trader Joe’s.
Atkins’ grandmother, earlier that day, was shot seven times.

During the ongoing television coverage, one witness’ account went viral online.
Miguel Trujillo saw the shooter go into Trader Joe’s.
He was asked by CNN to describe him, and he did – pretty hilariously.
‘She was a buff, sexy black guy with dreads,’ Trujillo said. ‘He’s maybe 6…, if not 5’11, he’s around 6 feet.
‘He’s really buff – that’s it.’
People on Twitter then immediately pointed out the hilarious description.
‘When you ask a gay man what the suspect looked like you’re going to get the truth…’ one said.
‘Hope everyone is safe though!’
Another said: ‘If I was Miguel, & saw a buff sexy man with dreads, I’d say the exact same thing!
Others criticized the eyewitness, and the people on Twitter, for joking about the incident.
One said: ‘Did you just make a joke out this tragedy?’
Mourning the loss of life
Mayor Eric Garcetti has congratulated police and firefighters for their work.
He also mourned the loss of life at the Trader Joe’s, and says he and his wife regularly shopped there when they lived in the neighborhood.
He said: ‘The teams that were able to respond, secure the perimeter and engage in conversation with the suspect no doubt saved lives today.’
