Two men are in critical condition at a hospital after an argument turned into a stabbing in California.
The victims, Ken Coll and Tom Boulet, underwent surgery, though the extent and number of their injuries is unknown. They were both stabbed early Tuesday (24 July) morning in their Sherman Oaks home.
Authorities arrested Matthew Boulet, 21, the adoptive son of Ken and Tom, after responding to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. At the scene, investigators found a folding pocket knife with a blade between 3-4 inches.
Neighbors identified Matthew and police described him as cooperative and ‘nonchalant’ when they put him in handcuffs, as seen in the video below.
Matthew was home from college. According to investigators, the assault occurred during an argument, although it’s unclear what it was about.
He admitted to the crime and now faces attempted murder charges.
‘Great models of parenthood’
Neighbors said Ken and Tom, an openly gay couple, adopted Matthew when he was a little boy.
One neighbor, Florence Riggs, called the couple ‘great models of parenthood’ and described them as ‘very significant’ in their community.
Tom himself is the leader of the local community group.
‘Whatever happened with Matthew going over the edge like that — that it’s all going to be rectified in some way where everyone will heal,’ Riggs added.
