Actress Amandla Stenberg has said “F*** yes!” to the prospect of an LGBT superhero film.
When asked if she thought it was time for an LGBT superhero, the 19-year-old said “F*** yes. Yes please, I would like that. It would be an honour to play that, it would be fantastic.”
The California-born actress, best know for her role in The Hunger Games, is staring in upcoming dystopian superhero film The Darkest Minds. She had been considered for a role in Marvel blockbuster Black Panther, but dropped out after deciding the role should go to a darker-skinned actress.
Stenberg made headlines in June after announcing she was gay during an interview with Wonderland magazine. She has identified as identified as queer, bisexual, pansexual and gender fluid in the past.
In her interview with Wonderland, Stenberg said: ‘‘I’m grateful for how being gay has afforded me this ability to experience and understand love and sex, and therefore life, in an expansive and infinite way.
“I was so overcome with this profound sense of relief when I realised that I’m gay – not bi, not pan, but gay – with a romantic love for women.”
The Darkest Minds will be in cinemas on 3 August.
