Tom Daley is the latest name rumored for the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Reports of Tom’s involvement follow this week’s news that the UK show still has no plans to feature same-sex couples.
A Strictly spokesman said: ‘Strictly has chosen the longstanding ballroom dancing format of mixed-sex couples.’
The BBC1 program has previously seen LGBTI contestants such as English singer Will Young take part. Scottish comic Susan Calman also danced last year.
Olympic diver Tom is tipped to join the show alongside Call My Name singer Cheryl and Googlebox star Scarlett Moffatt, reports The Mirror.
Tom married Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black last year. Together they have a son, Robert Ray, who they welcomed earlier this year.
Two of the show’s long-standing judges, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli, are openly gay.
‘I’ve been spat on’
Last year, openly gay Susan Calman was criticized by the LGBTI community for choosing to dance on the show with a man.
‘I’ve been spat on,’ she said at the time.
‘I wanted to dance with a man, it was my decision to dance with a man,’ she said.
‘I think politically there’s nothing more powerful than having an openly gay women, whose wife is sitting in the front row, doing what she wants to do.’
She furthermore added: ‘For the gay community to criticise me and do what they want to do is, I think, as difficult as suggesting what the straight community want me to do.’
Gay Star News has approached a representative for Tom for comment.
