Demi Lovato has been discharged from hospital, but her journey to recovery is only just beginning.
Lovato will be undergoing ‘extensive treatment’ for several months in rehab, E News has reported.
Lovato was rushed to hospital last month after being found unconscious at her apartment.
The 25-year-old was treated for an overdose. Upon being released from Cedars-Sinai Hospital she immediately checked herself into rehab.
The singer has canceled the remaining dates of her Tell Me You Love Me tour.
Focussing on treatment
Last week, Lovato posted a message on Instagram saying she was setting aside time to focus on her recovery and sobriety.
‘I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,’ she wrote.
‘The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side,’ she added.
Lovato has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction since she was a teenager, and has spoken about her struggles with maintaining sobriety in the past. Her song Sober detailing her struggles.
Support of fans and celebrities
Lovato’s fans and friends have stuck by her through her struggles. Her recent relapse saw an outpouring of support from both her fans and fellow celebrities.
But some who know her well have said her struggles with sobriety, and her recent relapse, are in part due to a punishing work-schedule.
Some of her friends have said this is a sign that she should give up show business altogether.
