A post-sex argument has ended in death for a 68-year-old French tourist in India.
The tourist’s male lover allegedly bludgeoned him to death and then chopped his body up into pieces. He then stuffed his body into three different sandbags.
Local police in Thanjavur in the southern state of Tamil Nadu confirmed they arrested a 29-year-old student in connection with the murder.
He reportedly confessed to the murder saying the pair had got into a fight after having sex.
‘The student got frustrated and hit him on the head with a wooden stick and he (the tourist) collapsed,’ senior police officer Senthil Kumar told AFP.
Kumar said police had informed the French Embassy of the murder.
Section 377
India crimnalizes sex between men under section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.
The controversial law is a relic from British colonialism and outlaws ‘carnal intercourse against the order of nature’.
But the Supreme Court of India is currently reviewing a petition to overturn Section 377. The Court’s ruling is expected soon.
It is not the first time a Court has ruled on Section 377.
In 2009, the High Court of Delhi ruled that 377 violated constitutional rights, which then decriminalized same-sex activity.
But in 2013, the Supreme Court overturned that ruling after pressure from religious groups.
