Eminem dropped a surprise album and it features homophobic lyrics.

The rapper shocked fans by releasing his latest album, Kamikaze, on Friday (31st August) without any prior publicity. While it’s been garnering some critical acclaim, one track in particular has caused controversy as he once again uses a homophobic slur.

On the track Fall, he hits at Tyler the Creator, saying: ‘Tyler create nothing, I see why you called yourself a faggot, bitch / It’s not just ’cause you lack attention / It’s ’cause you worship D12’s balls, you’re sacrilegious.’

The jab at Tyler comes after the artist criticized the track Walk on Water on Eminem’s 2017 album, Revival. He tweeted: ‘dear god this is horrible sheesh how the fuck’. It’s also in reference to Tyler the Creator’s last album, where Tyler hints several times that he might be gay or bisexual.

This isn’t the first time Eminem has received flack for being homophobic. His 2000 album Marshall Mathers LP garnered similar criticism for frequent use of the word ‘fag’. Years later, in 2013, he released another song with the word on it.

Fan backlash

While some fans are delighted about his return, others are less than happy about his still using homophobic slurs.

One user wrote: ‘Eminem went at Tyler the Creator with the HOMOPHOBIC BARS???? In 2018?????’

Music journalist Roisin O’Connor called out rapper Justin Vernon, who appeared on the track: ‘Can’t even say I’m surprised that Eminem is still using homophobic slurs in 2018 bc he’s a fucking child but Justin Vernon, what the hell are you doing on the track man. [sic.]’

Another added: ‘I’m so goddamn mad that eminem justifies calling tyler a f*ggot by saying he meant it as bitch… just say you’re still homophobic and go’
