Washington, DC – Today Rep. Chris Stewart from Utah introduced in Congress the “Fairness for All Act” to address LGBTQ discrimination. The following can be attributed to Rebecca Isaacs, Executive Director of Equality Federation:
“It is a remarkable day to see so many conservative religious voices and Republican members of Congress coming together to say that discrimination against LGBTQ Americans is wrong and must be addressed in federal law. State equality organizations have been securing state and local nondiscrimination protections for decades, but LGBTQ people in many communities across the country still lack basic protections. Unfortunately, there are significant problems with this bill that force us to oppose it as introduced, and we continue to support the Equality Act as the best approach to addressing the harms of discrimination. However, today we acknowledge how far we’ve come as a country in our national conversation about equal rights. Equality Federation and our member organizations won’t stop our work on the ground in communities and in the halls of power until every LGBTQ American experiences equality under the law and in their daily lives.”
