*Minor spoilers ahead for episode one of All Star 3*
The third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race debuted last week and a shocking twist 15 minutes into the first episode had everyone gagging.
But that twist could have bigger implications thanks to one astute Facebook user.
After the first nine queens made their workroom entrance, host RuPaul revealed who the tenth was.
Cue dramatic entrance of one Bebe Zahara Benet, winner of the first season of Drag Race.
The addition to the cast was shocking because previous All Stars seasons had never included a Drag Race winner.
But what does it all mean?
Fan forums guessed that Bebe’s addition to the cast was to allow her to be reintroduced to the fandom. It would also be a chance to win some more prize money – Bebe took home the crown when the winner’s cheque was only $20,000. Winners now receive $100,000.
But Chris White commented on a post by the official RuPaul’s Drag Race Facebook page about why he thought Bebe was brought back.
‘If you guys were smart, and notice the “Handsmaids Tale” theme to this season, you would know that Bebe isn’t really there to “compete”, White wrote.
‘Ru put her in the competition as a “mole”, just like in Handsmaid Tale. Bebe is going to coast by never landing in the bottom 2 or winning a challenge; she will always be safe.
‘When the finale comes, Bebe will be announced as the mole and helps Ru decide which queen will be come the winner.
‘By doing this, it allows Bebe to showcase her talent to new fans every episode without her winning a single thing from lipsynchs and the grand prize since she already won.
‘This also allows Mama Ru to do an All Stars season of just winners only in the future. You’re welcome.’
The Handmaid’s Tale theme White referred to came in the opening episode, with former All Stars winners appearing as Handmaids at the beginning and end of the first episode.
What do you think? Is that the reason Bebe was brought back? Would you like to see All Stars season with previous Drag Race winners?
