ALTERED: This purported photo of Bobi Wine and his wife posing with an LGBTQ award is fabricated

This photo on X (formerly Twitter) purportedly of Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, and his wife with “an LGBTQ award” is ALTERED.

The author has attached a screenshot of an image of Bobi Wine and Barbie Kyagulanyi posing purportedly with an award from the LGBTQ Alliance. The screenshot claims that the image was posted by ‘Abtex Promotions’, an events promotion company.

A similar photo on Facebook also associates the award with the LGBTQ Alliance.

However, the photo has been altered to include pride colours and LGBTQ branding. The award is unrelated to the LGBTQ Alliance.

A review of Bobi Wine’s Facebook page shows that the politician shared the original image which, however, did not have the LGBTQ branding.

Bobi Wine said the photo was taken at the Green Carpet Fashion annual awards show, where he received the Green Carpet Fashion Award as the ‘Futurist’.

Additionally, Abitex Promotions owner Abbey Musinguzi dismissed the screenshot, explaining that he did not make the post in the screenshot.

PesaChek has looked into a photo on X (formerly Twitter) purportedly of Bobi Wine and his wife posing with an LGBTQ award and finds it to have been ALTERED.
