Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway brought attendees of a charity gala to tears this weekend as she sent a heartfelt message to a 10-year-old transgender girl named Ella.
Hathaway was responding to a letter from the girl who had named herself after Hathaway’s character in Ella Enchanted.
In the letter, Ella thanked Hathaway for having the courage to be an ally.
‘Ella sweetie, I want to make something absolutely clear to you, it takes zero courage to love you’, Hathaway said in a speech on stage.

‘Let’s tear this world apart and build a better one’
‘Through her incredible talent and bold activism, Anne Hathaway uses her global platform to stand up for the LGBTQ community,’ said HRC President Chad Griffin earlier.
In her acceptance speech, Hathaway also said she was ‘shell shocked by what I see every day’.
She likewise acknowledged her privilege. Above all, she said, it had put her at the center of a ‘damaging and widely-accepted myth’.
‘That myth is that gayness orbits around straightness, transgender orbits around cisgender, and that all races orbit around whiteness’.
The Hollywood actress explained that spending time with the LGBTI community had taught her to reject that myth. Hathaway’s older brother is gay.
‘I appreciate this community because together we are not going to just question this myth, we are going to destroy it’, she told attendees.
‘Let’s tear this world apart and build a better one’.
