Provincetown might have held its very first Pride last June, but the popular location in Massachusetts isn’t new to the LGBTI community.
An all-time LGBTI favorite, the very tip of Cape Cod is famous worldwide for its Bear Week. Back for nine days of pool parties and other fun activities in the sun, the annual celebration of bears starts Friday 6 July.
The Bear Week annual cruise
Kicking off with beach and pool parties in the early morning, the week will provide bears and cubs with all sorts of entertainment till nighttime.
One of the highlights of the week will be the Bear Boat Sunset Cruise on 8 July. This boat ride will welcome 900 bears on board of The Provincetown II, Boston’s biggest passenger cruise ship. Music and boarding start at 4pm, with the actual sail taking place between 5-8:30pm.
The cruise sells out every year. If you didn’t manage to get a ticket, fear not: there will be plenty of other events in town.
Bear Week Art Exhibit 2018
Several art galleries will invite bears and cubs to go see the works displayed.
Gay in Trumpland is a powerful photographic exhibition by openly gay Brooklyn artist Ron Amato. One of the events of Bear Week, the exhibit will be open to the public between 5 and 16 July. The reception will be on 10 July at 6pm at CUSP Gallery, next to the Town Hall.
Body Mosaics by Gaston Lacombe will open at Studio Lacomb on 7 July, between 6-9 pm. The concept is an innovative juxtaposition of black and white photographs featuring different male body parts. The exhibit will be on view until 30 July at Whaler’s Wharf, 2nd floor, 237 Commercial Street.
Bears love hiking
For those who feel sporty, there will be a Bears In The Wild hiking meetup on 12 July. The hike will take participants on a social stroll through the woods of the Beech Forest.
