Bryan Singer is set to direct a Red Sonja movie despite multiple accusations of sexual assault and sexual misconduct.
The gay X-Men: Days of Future Past director is reportedly being lined up to head the project, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In fact sources tell the publication that the studio behind the film, Millennium, are paying him ‘top dollar’, despite the recent controversy.
The Superman Returns director has been accused of sexual misconduct several times. Last December, he was accused of raping Cesar Sanchez-Guzman when he was 17-years-old. In 2014, Michael Egan had his case dismissed after alleging sexual misconduct against Singer. The lawyers have since apologized for filing the suit.
Bryan Singer has denied all accusations.
Outside of this, Singer has still faced trouble. 20th Century Fox fired the movie-maker from Bohemian Rhapsody in December 2017 after reportedly not turning up to set. A representative of his told the BBC at the time that he needed to tend to ‘a personal health matter concerning Bryan and his family’.
The Red Sonja film
Red Sonja is a fictional character from the Conan the Barbarian universe. The story centers around a woman who’s entire family is murdered by mercenaries. When she tries to defend herself, she is raped by the leader. Sonja’s then given super-powers by a being known as the Red Goddess on the condition that she never has sexual relations with a man.
The movie has been in production since 2008, after Robert Rodriguez teamed with his then-girlfriend Rose McGowan to make the project. However, it eventually fell through.
The property was originally made into a movie in 1985, starring Brigitte Nielsen in the title roll and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan.
