In an Instagram caption under a series of photos of his mom, he wrote: ‘Today I lost my best friend, the love of my life… my momma.

He added: ‘Rest in peace, my angel.’

The news comes about after doctors diagnosed Dana with chronic liver and kidney damage last month. This led to the failure of her organs.

Doctors then told the family to focus on her quality of life, not the quantity.

In another Instagram post about her failing health, he wrote: ‘My mom, Dana, always loves to laugh.

‘Even when her liver and kidney [failed], doctors gave us the worst news you could get. My mom looked at us and said, “The best thing to do in these situations is to laugh.” She then chuckled so loud you could hear it to the other end of the hospital,’ he recalled.

‘My beautiful mother-in-law is now dancing with angels’

Condolences for the American Horror Story star flooded in on social media, including Colton’s husband Jeff Leatham. They married in October last year.

Jeff posted a video of Colton dancing with Dana. He wrote in the caption: ‘My beautiful mother-in-law is now dancing with angels as beautiful as she is. Her fun spirit and lust for life was so inspiring.

‘Dance away beautiful Dana – dance away.
