Actor Colton Haynes has share the beautiful and final message he received from his mom just before he died.
Hayes’ mom, Dana Denise Mitchell, who he described as his ‘best friend’ died of chronic liver and kidney damage in March.
The American Horror Story and Teen Wolf actor shared the handwritten note from his mother on Instagram.
‘Colton you little shit…I will come back & haunt you if you don’t follow through on your dreams. My love to my 4 beautiful children. Mom,’ she wrote.
Haynes vowed to do what his mom told him saying, ‘I got u mom’ and ‘this town has never been ready for us Kansas folk…get ready’.
Even during the worst of her treatment, Dana managed to keep her trademark sense of humor.
‘My mom, Dana, always loves to laugh,’ Haynes wrote while his mother was in hospital.
‘Even when her liver and kidney [failed], doctors gave us the worst news you could get. My mom looked at us and said, “The best thing to do in these situations is to laugh.” She then chuckled so loud you could hear it to the other end of the hospital.’
Haynes’ tragedy
It has been a rough couple of years for the actor. As he saw his Hollywood career go from strength to strength, the star dealt with a number of personal tragedies.
He revealed that he lost his father, William, to suicide in 2016. Haynes was told at the time that William took his own life after learning his son was gay.
‘So, of course, I lost it and was like, “How could you say something like that?” And no one will ever really know the truth. But my brother and my mom went to pick up my dad’s stuff, and the only picture on his fridge was my eighth-grade graduation picture. So I was just like, Fuck,’ Haynes said in a 2016 interview.
In May this year, Haynes filed for divorce from his husband Jeff Leatham after six months of marriage.
Citing irreconcilable differences as a reason for divorce, Haynes defended his ex on Twitter, describing him as ‘amazing’.
