A comedy video ‘Asking straight people questions LGBTs get’ has caused mirth in Singapore.
The video had garnered more than 10,000 views and 271 shares on Facebook. Comedian Haresh Tilani asked random straight Singaporeans the sort of questions you might often hear as LGBTI person.
These included: ‘So when did you decide you would be straight for the rest of your life?’
He also asked ‘don’t you think you’re flaunting your straightness by holding hands?’ And ‘You mean you didn’t choose to be straight?’.
Section 377
The video comes as debate over Singapore’s anti-gay law, Section 377 of the Penal Code, continues to rage in the city-state.
More than 40,000 LGBTI rights supporters have signed an online petition to repeal the law. Meanwhile, about 100,000 people have signed a petition maintain the rights-abusing law.
A survey published this week found found 55 percent of Singapore’s residents support Section 377A.
High Court challenge
A Singapore disk jockey filed a legal challenge against Section 377A of the city-state’s Penal Code last week. Johnson Ong, aka DJ Big Kid, is arguing that the law is unconstitutional.
Singapore’s Attorney-General has been listed as the defendant and a pre-trial conference will take place on 25 September. Singapore’s highest court in 2014 dismissed a similar appeal.
‘It is imperative that the next generation of Singaporeans at the very least have the protection of the law that does not label them criminals,’ DJ Big Kid told Gay Star News.
