Cynthia Nixon expands on wanting marijuana legalized in New York State

Cynthia Nixon has given more detail on her thoughts about marijuana legalization in New York State.

The actress and lifelong New Yorker is currently running to become governor of her home state.

The actress, who of course made her name on the hit show Sex and the City, elaborated on her opinion in an interview with the New York Times.

Asked ‘Is it your belief that no career politician could fix Albany?’ Cynthia replied: ‘I think they could go in and start.

‘But no one stops to say: “We’re one of the most progressive states in the country. We’re two-to-one Democratic. Why haven’t we enacted campaign-finance reform or criminal-justice reform?”‘

She furthermore speculated: ‘”Why do we have the second-most-unequal schools in the country? Why haven’t we legalized marijuana?”’

‘It’s a justice issue’

She went on to state she ‘100%’ wants to legalize marijuana in the state.

She furthermore added: ‘It’s a moneymaker. And it’s a justice issue.

‘We have people, particularly African-American men, sitting in jail for something that white people do with impunity.’

Cynthia, who starred as Emily Dickinson in 2016 film A Quiet Passion, married wife Christine Marinoni in 2012.

In one episode of Sex and the City, Cynthia’s character Miranda is seen preparing to smoke smoking marijuana in the apartment of Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) along with Samantha (Kim Cattrall).

In another, Miranda defends Carrie to police after the latter is caught smoking a joint on the streets of New York City.
