Daniela Vega, star of trans-themed movie A Fantastic Woman, will present an award at next month’s Oscars.
She will become the openly trans person in history to do so.
The Chilean actress was hotly-tipped to become the first trans actress to land a nomination at the Awards. She stars in the hit film A Fantastic Woman.
The movie follows a trans woman in the Chilean capital Santiago following the death of her older male lover.
However, in the end the movie, directed by Sebastian Lelio, scored a single nomination: that of Best Foreign Language Film.
‘My mere existence shakes those people up’
Trailblazer Daniela, 28, recently told The Guardian: ‘It actually gives me a physical pleasure to annoy conservatives.’
She furthermore added: ‘I don’t have to be violent, I don’t have to insult anyone – my mere existence shakes those people up.’

Other presenters at the ceremony on 3 March include Moonlight’s Mahershala Ali, who won Best Supporting Actor for the gay-themed drama last year.
He and Daniela will be joining as presenters by the likes of Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Laura Dern, Jennifer Garner, Greta Gerwig, Tiffany Haddish, Tom Holland, Kumail Nanjiani, Margot Robbie and Emma Stone.

Commenting, producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd said: ‘Whether returning to the Oscars stage, or gracing it for the first time, each of these artists bring their own distinguishing and energetic appeal.

At last night’s BAFTA Awards in London, lesbian-themed movie The Handmaiden won Best Foreign Language Film.
