Singer John Duff released a music video for his new single, Girly, and it is a rocking power anthem for anyone who identifies with their femme self.
The video, which takes place at a movie theater, also stars RuPaul’s Drag Race alums Willam, Bianca Del Rio, and Mariah Balenciaga.
‘Bianca and I have known each other for a few years,’ Duff told GSN. ‘We met in line for a bathroom in Australia in 2015, actually.’
When he moved to Los Angeles, he ran into Del Rio again and they got drinks. That’s when he first introduced her to Girly.
‘She asked how she could help. I asked for Willam and Mariah… the rest is history.’ He described the filming as a ‘KIKI’ and that performing with the trio was ‘effortless’. It clearly paid off.

Femininity is power
When asked about the message of being ‘girly’, Duff responded: ‘Man – do you know how long I hated my femininity?’
He further explained he doesn’t hate women, which made him ask himself why he would hate his own feminine traits.
‘Women are incredible – and if you deny femininity you are insulting women as a whole,’ he said simply.
The inspiration for the video came from people rejecting his ideas ‘for their feminine nature’. Duff also said he wanted to ‘highlight the sexualization of female performers and how absurd it looks to simply replace the ingenue with a hairy man’.
Another refreshing element of Duff’s video is the diversity of his background dancers.
‘These videos represent me,’ he told GSN about the make-up of his art. ‘All of the people in this video are real life friends of mine. All of my videos are this way. I am so happy with the world that I live in… I wish it were the whole world.’
