Disney added two new cast members to their highly anticipated Frozen sequel: Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown.

Variety first revealed the news this afternoon (13 July).

There are no character or plot details for the sequel yet, which is slated for a 2019 release.

The last we saw of Arendelle, Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel) ended the kingdom’s eternal summer and with the help of her younger sister Anna (Kristen Bell), they defeated the despicable Prince Hans (Santino Fontana).

When the film was released in 2013, it became one of Disney’s biggest hits, earning $1.3 billion globally. It then won the Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2014.

Since then, it has also spawned a Broadway musical, which earned three Tony Award nominations earlier this year.

Menzel and Bell are returning to reprise their roles in the sequel, alongside Josh Gad as Olaf and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff.

Original directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are also returning to helm the sequel. Disney recently named Lee chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, following the departure of John Lasseter. Pete Doctor is taking of the reins at Pixar.

Could Elsa really get a girlfriend?

Almost immediately, Wood’s casting sparked discussion amongst fan.

Namely, whether or not she’ll be playing a love interest for Elsa, something they’ve wanted since the first film.

Though a third of peope are ‘uncomfortable‘ with the idea of a gay Disney princess, Lee recently said it was possible.

Fingers crossed!

Frozen 2 arrives in theaters on 27 November 2019.
