Hayley Kiyoko is continuing to make good on having a wonderful #20GayTeen.
The singer recently posted a photo of herself on Instagram surrounded by bras. Where did the pieces of lingerie come from? Fans throwing them onstage during Kiyoko’s Expectations tour.
Instead of making an oddity collection of them all, Kiyoko is going to use them for a much better cause.
She plans on donating them to homeless women and women in need.
‘HEY BRA THROWERS,’ she wrote in the caption.
‘Remember all of those bras you threw at me on tour?!?! We got a total of 78 BRAS.
‘What are we going to do with your ‘support’? We are donating them to @isupportthegirls who helps girls that are experiencing homelessness or are in need. Thank you for an amazing tour and for all these bras.’
Musician Neara Russell, who is touring with Kiyoko, collected all the bras from the shows.
The organization I Support the Girls also posted about the donation.
‘If you’re “curious”, @hayleykiyoko exceeded our “expectations” when she and @neararussell thoughtfully collected all the bras thrown on stage during the tour,’ they wrote, referring to some of Kiyoko’s songs.
‘They are donating them to us and we will launder and distribute them to homeless LGBTQ folx in need. Thank you all who threw bras, they are going to support other women in need.’
Women have the right to maintain their dignity
Dana Marlowe founded I Support the Girls in 2015. It started simply as an idea put forth on social media and then grew into more.
As a group, they collect and donate ‘new and gently used bras, and individually sealed tampons and maxi pads to women and girls nationally and internationally’.
The idea behind the organization is that women in need shouldn’t have to choose between feeding themselves and personal health.
To date, they have collected over 350,000 bras and 1,800,000 menstrual products. Kiyoko has now helped with this mission.
