Few things go hand-in-hand quite like gay people and wine. But instead of settling on the £8 bottle of Chilean from Tesco, you can now drink your way through the best grapes the continent has to offer at the European Gay Wine Weekend.
Taking over the idyllic town of Blaye near Bordeaux from 18 to 20 October 2018, the weekend is dedicated to enjoying the delicious wines of Europe while making friends with fellow drink-loving LGBTI people.
Not only that, they are hoping to bring individuals closer to wine producers, hosting a dinner with them at the stunning Citadelle Hotel Blaye, visits to wineries, and wine tastings designed for experts and novices alike.
But if you thought sipping on the world’s most romantic drink in one of the world’s most romantic countries wasn’t quite romantic enough, wait for this. You’ll also get to enjoy sunset wine drinks, every night, in a different location. If that doesn’t spark some proposals, what will?
Wine and dine
Of course, all that alcohol can get to even the battle-hardened brunchers. Thankfully, you can detox in the mornings with complimentary yoga classes and group runs. Then those looking to be extra naughty can party all night at the Saturday Wine Soiree.
Co-director of the festival Patrick Bernie says that their goal is to bring people together with each other – and with wine.
He said: ‘We love the idea of bringing together gay, lesbian, bi, and transgender folk to give them an environment that is open and welcoming – all while getting to know a little bit more about wine in this beautiful setting.’
Whether you’re after a romantic getaway or a single trip to enjoy in dreary October, the European Gay Wine Weekend is, at least, uniting you with your favourite kind of booze.
