The Fort Bend Queer Alliance launched its office on January 5, 2024.
The office of Fort Bend County Judge KP George is launching a Queer Alliance Committee.
The committee will focus on educating the community and providing resources to the county’s LGBTQ residents through initiatives such as HIV testing and a Pride luncheon.
Tami Frazier is a spokesperson for the county judge’s office.
“This is just another step where Judge George felt it was important to recognize this community,” she said.
The committee currently consists of six members and held its launch on Friday.
The alliance is working with community partners, including Katy Pride, Moms Demand Action, First Christian Church of Katy and Fort Bend County Clinical Services.
Frazier said the committee is also seeking to educate Fort Bend residents.
“There’s a lot of myths, and so we want to debunk those myths,” she said. “It’s about educating the public.”
In a statement, George said the committee aims to promote equality in Fort Bend.
“As I have said many times, I believe in human dignity and respect regardless of anyone’s origin, race, ethnicity, religion, or orientation,” stated Judge George. “One of the primary goals of this committee is to advocate for equal opportunities for all Fort Bend residents, irrespective of their orientation or gender identity.”
