Big congrats to Freedom Oklahoma!
The organization has recently welcomed their new executive director Alli Shinn. And, they are also celebrating a legislative session in which no anti-LGBTQ legislation has been introduced. Last year anti-LGBTQ 18 bills were defeatd by the organization.
“There has been hard-won progress for LGBTQ+ people over the past several years but we know that we still have work to do,” said Shinn. “For too many members of our community, especially trans and non binary folks and people of color, the progress of the past decade has not translated to true and full lived equality. I’m thrilled to be joining Freedom Oklahoma and look forward to building partnerships that reflect the lived experiences and diversity of our community, knowing that together we can be a powerful voice for change.”
Ian Palmquist, Senior Director of Programs said, “Freedom Oklahoma has long been an active member of Equality Federation and has an impressive record of fighting back legislative attacks on LGBTQ Oklahomans in a challenging political climate. We’re excited to have someone with Allie’s deep nonprofit and advocacy experience in the state at the helm and are looking forward to partnering as she takes the organization to the next level.”
