Looking’s Doris always knew how to act in gay bars
A gay club has responded perfectly to a bachelorette party who asked if the group would be ‘safe’ from HIV.
Nectar Nightclub in Manila, Philippines, posted the messages they received from the female group.
‘Is it safe here? Because my friend will celebrate her bachelorette party,’ the woman said.
‘What do you mean safe?’ the club owner responded.
‘I do respect LGBT community. But I’m worried about HIV infection. Because a lot of gay now a days [sic] are vulnerable to HIV. I’m just worried that a lot of gays coming there has HIV. No disrespect and I’m sorry.’
The owner clapped back: ‘We advise you to read a little more about HIV before you infect our club with your stupidity.
‘That’s more contagious.
‘Take your bachelorette party to a straight club. Your business is not welcome at Nectar.’
Nectar posted a Facebook post on 10 July, and reported by PN.
‘We were horrified that someone had the nerve to offend us while asking about a celebration with their “straight” friends within our LGBTQ+ establishment,’ they said.
‘Their ignorance about HIV was appalling.’
The club continued to say it was more offensive because same-sex marriage is not legal in the Phillippines.
They called it ‘down-right straight-privilege nonsense’.
Nectar also shared the story of the only serious fight inside the club.
Why not educate the bachelorette party on HIV?
Hundreds of people responded to the club.
Some said it was missed opportunity to not educate the party on HIV.
They said: ‘We stand firm in our response and we will continue to stand next to and in front of our community as protectors and trailblazers of our right to exist.
‘We will continue to create a safe and accepting party environment for everyone who walks through Nectar’s doors.’
