San Diego Comic Con is currently in full swing. Brands use the event to exclusively reveal new products, games or merchandise. One reveal yesterday has left fans of the cult comedy show, The Golden Girls, rather excited.
Doll maker NECA unveiled its first Golden Girls action figures, each based on the characters from the show.
The Golden Girls
The Golden Girls ran on TV from 1985 to 1992. The sitcom followed the lives of four older women who lived together in Miami Florida. They were Dorothy (Beatrice Arthur) and her mom, Sofia (Estelle Getty), Rose (Betty White), and Blanche (Rue McClanahan).
Its savage wit and advocation of friendship made the show hugely popular with LGBTI audiences. Drag theatrical versions continue to appear. There has even been talk of creating a version focusing on four older gay men.
NECA says the dolls, which stand 8” tall each and are dressed in real fabric clothing, will begin shipping in the first quarter of 2019.
‘I’m literally crying tears of joy over these!’ says @jrsinger78 on Instagram. ‘Thank you for making a dream come true.’
