State Rep. Jessica Gonzalez was elected chair of the Texas House LGBTQ Caucus. Rep. Venton Jones will be vice chair. Both are Democrats representing Dallas districts.
“I am grateful for the trust and support of my colleagues in electing me to be the next Chair of the Texas House LGBTQ Caucus,” Gonzalez tweeted. “We still have a long road ahead and a lot of work to do, but I remain committed to do everything in my power to protect and defend the LGBTQ+ community. Shout out to @RepMaryGonzalez for her service as Cofounder and Chair the last three sessions.”
Jessica Gonzalez was also a co-founder of the caucus. She said recently she would like to expand the organization from just a House Caucus to a full legislative caucus that includes the Senate. Sen. Molly Cook, D-Houston, was elected to the upper chamber and is LGBTQ.
