Gus Kenworthy fired back at a homophobic Twitter user on Monday, with a sharp response to someone with negative views on same-sex parenting.

US freestyle skier and fan favourite Gus, 26, made history when he kissed partner Matt Wilkas live on TV.

Before that, he happily told of how a broken thumb he sustained during the competition meant he couldn’t shake US Vice President Mike Pence’s hand.

Gus Kenworthy slays them on Twitter

Since then, Kenworthy has been seen as a role model for gay athletes, alongside now world-famous figure skater Adam Rippon.

But some continue to voice their opinions against Kenworthy., continuing on an argument laid down by Daily Mail columnist Richard Littlejohn.

The user echoed Littlejohn’s article on same-sex parenting, which is thought to have been aimed at Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black who recently announced they were having a baby together.

The user tweeted: ‘Question is if men marry men and women marry women who will produce children in this world.

In response, Gus sent back a sharp one-liner which said: ‘Hopefully not you.’

A legion of fans to back him up

Meanwhile, a raft of fans jumped to back the Olympic hero up.

One wrote: ‘Oh yeah cause there’s a shortage of children! The orphanages are empty.’

Another wrote: ‘Nicely done,’ with a humorous meme attached.

Meanwhile, Littlejohn’s article in the Daily Mail led to brands distancing themselves from the paper.

The likes of Natwest, Centre Parcs, EA Games and Southbank Centre  all pulled advertising from the Daily Mail.
