Heathrow Airport has unveiled the LGBTI faces of its Welcome Campaign to celebrate Pride month.
Adverts featuring five members of the community – including three Gay Star News competition winners and an airport colleagues – went on display around Heathrow yesterday.
Yesterday’s launch activity at Europe’s largest airport included two flash mob performances by the Pink Singers in Terminals 2 and 5.
Those in the ads include drag queen Vanity Nightmare, trans activist Nikki Hayden, actor Adam Mroz and Steph Constantinides, Security Facilitator for Heathrow, who were all at Heathrow for the activation.
Others featured include Nicole Dumbleton, a Security Manager for the airport, plus pride performer Ricky Tanna
‘It’s a far buzzier place’
John Holland-Kaye, CEO of Heathrow Airport, told Gay Star News: ‘I’m really excited. Not just because Heathrow is the most diverse place on the planet, when you think about all the millions of people who come through here. But we’ve also got the same diversity in the people who work here.
‘For many years I don’t think people would have been comfortable expressing their sexuality here. I’m so glad that now people can. You can see people enjoying themselves far more, it’s a far buzzier place.’
Nikki Hayden told GSN: ‘I’m really happy that I was chosen. I spend a lot of time helping trans people out, I do a lot of trans activism – this gives a really good platform, so I can share my story, and maybe that’ll help other people come out and feel comfortable and share their story too.’
Meanwhile, Adam added: ‘We shouldn’t be seen as different. We should be seen as one. That people coming to our country get to see that represented [is great].’
Drag queen Vanity furthermore said: ‘It’s amazing! It’s an amazing thing to have a drag queen. The fact people are going to see my face as they walk in is an amazing thing.’
