EuroPride Stockholm 2018 celebrated the LGBTI community with a joyful march full rainbow flags, glitter dresses, balloons, and big smiles.

Alongside the capital, Gothenburg in Southern Sweden will also host a EuroPride Parade later this month. The parade is scheduled for 19 August.

A record attendance for EuroPride Stockholm

The Stockholm’s march is usually Scandinavia’s largest. However, this year’s EuroPride Parade Stockholm broke all records with an estimated amount of 55,000–60,000 participants. About 250 floats also took part in the parade.

The march took to the streets of the city center on a sunny day. Revelers and floats paraded along the roads between City Hall and EuroPride Park at Östermalm’s IP.  According to the organizers, the march was three hours and 15 minutes long from start to finish.

Stockholm Pride and West Pride joined forces under the EuroPride flag in 2018. Therefore, the festival has attracted many international visitors as well.

Political authorities also marched for the LGBTI community

Even political authorities showed their support to the LGBTI community. The Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, in fact, also participated in the parade. He was also joined by five other party leaders from the Swedish Parliament.

The community was the focus of the event, of course. Marching for those who can’t, a walking group parading on behalf of those who did not have the opportunity, was deeply appreciated. The parade also included a flag performance that showed countries where there is still not enough legal protection for LGBTI people.

Conchita headlined the festival as EuroPride Vienna ambassador

2014 Eurovision Song Contest winner Conchita headlined the music festival. The Rise Like A Phoenix singer is also the ambassador for EuroPride Vienna 2019.

Furthermore, Swedish dance supergroup Alcazar took the stage for a much-anticipated reunion. t. A. t. u.’s Lena Katina and Sara Aalto also performed their hits on stage.
